Calamus Powder

Calamus powder is made from roots of Calamus plant. 

Its Ayurvedic name is Vaikhand or Vachha.

Commonly it is called as Sweet flag, sweet sedge, calamus, ratroot (rat root) or flag root

This is one of the powders that are used in Udvartan Massage. Udvartan Massage is a dry massage with a herbal powder or at times used together with oil.

Calamus is a plant of 2-4ft height found in moist edges of streams and lakes. With a strong aroma, this herb has rhizomes which resemble very closely to ginger. Itts action is euphoric to the nervous system. Therefor Clients feel recharged and fresh mentally after the massage with this powder.

As per Ayurveda, Vacha is a very stimulating nervine tonic which increases the satvic content of the body constitution and energises the prana. It is considered one of the best herbs till date for mental problems and has numerous other health benefits also.

In the massage it is used the same as Calamus powder either doing a completely dry localised massage or mix with oil for the whole body Ayur Balance/Ayur Yoga massages.
